Reflecting on 2024: A thank you to our community and a look ahead

As 2024 draws to a close, the Joint Council for Cosmetic Practitioners (JCCP) extends our heartfelt gratitude to all our registrants, stakeholders, and partners for their unwavering commitment to professionalism and public protection within the cosmetic sector. Your dedication has been instrumental in shaping a safer, more regulated industry.

This year has marked significant progress in collaboration, awareness, and enforcement. One key area of focus has been our ongoing engagement with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) and Environmental Health Officers across the UK. These partnerships have been instrumental in strengthening enforcement activities to ensure compliance and public safety in the cosmetic sector.

Driving public protection through collaboration

The commitment of Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) has been increasingly evident, as their awareness of risks within the cosmetic sector continues to grow. This awareness has driven more proactive enforcement measures across the UK. From identifying unsafe practices to ensuring adherence to professional standards, EHOs play a critical role in safeguarding the public.

For the JCCP, these collaborations underscore the importance of a collective approach to addressing challenges in the sector. As we move forward, we will continue to engage with CIEH and EHOs nationally to support their work and enhance public protection.

Looking ahead: The road to cosmetic licensing

As we anticipate the implementation of the cosmetic licensing scheme, the JCCP remains committed to a risk-based approach to regulation. In 2025, we expect enforcement activity to intensify, particularly for high-risk procedures such as Breast and Buttock augmentation, Liposuction, IV infusions and  platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments and similar practices. Practitioners can anticipate increased scrutiny to ensure compliance with safety and ethical standards.

This risk-based approach will be central to our ongoing work, fostering a regulatory framework that prioritises public safety while promoting professionalism and innovation in the cosmetic industry.

Thank you for your commitment

None of this progress would be possible without the commitment of our registrants and stakeholders. Your dedication to upholding high standards not only enhances public trust but also paves the way for a safer and more sustainable cosmetic sector.

As we look toward 2025, the JCCP is inspired by your contributions and collaboration. We remain steadfast in our mission to support you, foster excellence, and work alongside our partners to build a safer and more accountable industry.

From all of us at the JCCP, we wish you a joyful festive season and a prosperous New Year.

Warm regards,
The JCCP Team
