For the sake of public protection, all products used for cosmetic procedures, including medicines and medical devices, must be purchased appropriately. Legitimate products, when supplied through legitimate routes, carry an assurance that they are safe and effective. Conversely, products purchased outside of normal supply chains carry no such guarantee, they pose a significant threat to members of the public and can make the purchaser liable to criminal prosecution and other enforcement action.
As the attention of regulators and enforcement officers now focuses on the products used and their provenance, the JCCP continues to advise practitioners to be diligent in their procurement practices. We understand the legislative complexities that apply, but there are straightforward measures that can be taken to ensure safety and compliance with the law. The following video highlights these measures. It provides a basic insight into supply routes and recommends simple expedients relating to UK registered pharmacies and to authorised suppliers. As we approach cosmetic licensing, and the oversight that will come with this, new standards of evidence and audit relating to products may apply. The JCCP intend to issue further guidance to compliment this video, and to provide confidence to practitioners, enabling them to continue to operate safely and legally.
